The Role Of Pharmacists In Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs: Strategies For Optimal Antibiotic Use
Abstract:
This study explores the evolution and future directions of antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASPs) in the face of mounting antimicrobial resistance (AMR). As the global burden of AMR grows, it is crucial to implement effective strategies for the optimal use of antibiotics. The study discusses the barriers to successful ASP implementation, including the shortage of specialized staff, inadequate training, communication issues, and financial constraints. Additionally, it highlights the role of technology, particularly electronic health records (EHR), telemedicine, and telepharmacy, in enhancing stewardship activities. The research emphasizes the importance of interprofessional collaboration, continued education, and the integration of innovative technological solutions to address these challenges and ensure the sustainability of ASPs. The study offers recommendations for overcoming key barriers and optimizing ASP outcomes, particularly in resource-constrained settings.
Key words: Antimicrobial Stewardship (ASPs), Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), Electronic Health Records (EHR), Telemedicine, Pharmacists.
